THE IDEA
Debt recovery needs momentum.
Overdue accounts can easily become an endless cycle of emails, promises and follow-ups. Too often, the cost of that delay is bad debt.
So we don't drift. We pounce.
OUR APPROACH
1, 2, BOOM is our commitment to action.
We set clear expectations, set deadlines and keep the recovery moving. When a deadline passes, we move to the next agreed step.
THE POUNCE
No drift. No endless chasing. We pounce.
The objective isn't activity. It's resolution — getting the debt dealt with so you can get back to looking after your business and your good customers.

For one-off referrals, Gatekeeper currently focuses on commercial debts of $5,000 or more. That's where an unpaid account is likely to be causing real pain to a client's business.
Delivering 1, 2, BOOM properly takes attention. We want the capacity to understand the debt, maintain momentum and drive it toward resolution — not simply add another account to a queue.
We will consider smaller debts where they form part of a larger bundle, or for regular clients, provided the total value of debts referred is generally $10,000 or more. As our systems develop, we'll extend that capability without compromising the Gatekeeper service standard.
DOCUMENT THE DEBT
Invoices, statements, correspondence, Terms of Trade and other supporting information help us understand the debt and move quickly.
DON'T WAIT UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE
The earlier we're involved, the more options may remain. If a payment promise keeps moving, that's information — not progress.
TELL US UP FRONT
If the debtor disputes the amount, the work, the goods or their liability, tell us what you know. A disputed debt needs to be understood before the right recovery path is chosen.
Years working as an insolvency specialist taught me something that has stayed with me: financial problems rarely improve through delay.
When a struggling business is allowed to keep drifting, value can disappear. A business that might once have been sold or restructured as a going concern can deteriorate until there is little left but assets to realise. Creditors lose more. Suppliers get hurt. Employees can be affected. And the losses can spread from one business to another.
That experience shaped the way we approach debt recovery at Gatekeeper.
There is a world of difference between supporting a good customer through a genuine temporary difficulty and repeatedly financing a business that cannot — or will not — pay you on time.
New Zealand company law reflects the importance of liquidity. The ability of a company to pay its debts as they become due in the normal course of business is one of the two limbs of the statutory solvency test.
Being patient can sometimes help preserve a good business relationship. Endless patience can simply transfer somebody else's financial problem to your business.
Your good customers pay you. They communicate. They honour arrangements. They deserve your time, attention and capacity.
When someone habitually doesn't, ask a simple question:
Why are we protecting their goodwill at the expense of our own business — and the good customers we should be looking after?
That's why Gatekeeper believes in acting early, setting clear deadlines and keeping things moving.
1, 2, BOOM isn't about aggression. It's about avoiding drift.

THE DOUBLE WHAMMY
Overdue debt already costs your business money. Without effective Terms of Trade, recovering it can cost you again.
Legal fees, collection costs and the time spent chasing payment can all eat further into your margin. Properly drafted and incorporated Terms of Trade can provide important protections, including the ability in appropriate circumstances to recover collection costs and interest from the customer. Why should a customer who doesn't pay as agreed leave you paying to recover your own money?
ALREADY HAVE TERMS? WE'LL CHECK THEM FREE
If you already have Terms of Trade but aren't sure how well they protect you, send them to Gatekeeper.
We'll review them at no charge and tell you whether we see gaps that should be addressed. If they're doing the job, we'll tell you that too. If they need strengthening, we'll explain why and offer a cost-effective solution.
The important question isn't whether you have Terms of Trade. It's whether the right terms were agreed with the customer before you need them.
ONE BAD DEBT CAN PAY FOR THE PROTECTION
Strong Terms of Trade are not paperwork for paperwork's sake. They are part of your credit-management system — setting expectations before you supply, strengthening your position when payment is late, and helping protect your business when things go wrong. The cost of getting them right can be small compared with the cost of one avoidable bad debt.
Protect first. Recover second. Prevention is better than both.
